Roll em' if it's got one. Today's challenge: racecar under $15K. With rollbar.

Let's face it. Racin's 'spensive.

Even Lemons "$500" cars require them to be race-prepped, have gas in them and some sort of metal thing that keeps the rust from giving the driver tetanus or crushed. One or the other.

Saves a bit if the car already has a safety system that you know nothing about other than that one bar has a pad which is good because I keep hitting my head on it. This is the only rational cost-saving rationale in use here.

Sure, you may know how to weld and can put a 200mph cage together for the porta-john, but this is for the un-helmeted.

So, Put on your high visibility vests and get racin'. In Safety .

Kinja'd!!!

The minimum requirement is either regulation roll cage or what somebody thinks is one.

Fuel cells, cutoff switches, tow points, hell I don't know. racecar.

Streetability is a bonus.

Place Yer Bets

In an arbitrary sportscaster moment, you can pick your winner and loser among your selections, given a sanctioned or utterly rebellious race.

British Australian, or US TV presenters welcome.

Plausible, Losable, Most Likely To Fail Tech at Lemons

Losable: Fish out of ocean in a bathtub

Malibu Drag Racer

Good paint, hot motor. Just don't turn left or right.

Just kidding...

I'm sure the steering works.

It's just a rumor that welding the rack and pinion will give you .4% more Oppo.

General Mayhem:

By accident or design, every race-ready vehicle I found was a Chevy. This does not exclude other products, but just in case you thought the cards were stacked for GM. Nope, just what the market has available in the area.

It is theorized that none of these General Motors is running its original General Motor or it would be a wonder beyond the fundamental laws of economy physics.

Not every Vega is a Cosworth.

(Ed: Bonus corrections for my pals over the years: Every Mazda is not powered by a rotary engine, and Corvettes never had a production year of steel bodies. )

The Plausble Dead Heat

We seem to have ended up with two rally cars.. Coordinate and have the owners prove which one is the best. Then give your money to them.

Kinja'd!!!

Chevette Rally It absolutely, positively has to have a high-performance motor as the rollcage would bog down a stock 'Vette to Granny level. A friend had one new, it couldn't make it out of the driveway without a run up to the incline.

Kinja'd!!!

Vega Rally. Makes you wish GM had built the things more correctly.

Fails Tech

Kinja'd!!!

No motor. Honesty and insanity is a virtue among the Lemons parking lot attendants . You will be moving by start time. Go ahead.

It's got roll bar its got racecar.

So, dig out that craigslist link for that dream racecar and share your angst over it.

Win, Place, or No-Show.

Yeah if I included that Vega wagon roller I suppose this would work as well.

But in that category I'm leaning Vega. Oh wait, it's the Vega itself. Rollbar hopefully welded in with the body in a jig of some sort.
